This is how you tell if your sewing thread is good quality
There’s a vast range on the market to choose from. But how can you identify a good quality thread? If you look closely at the thread spool and you can see little knots, you should avoid it. Thread like this cannot run evenly. The thread run-off will stop suddenly or stick in your sewing machine guide bar, or the thread will tear at the needle.
You can see another indication of poor quality thread when you unroll the first centimetres. The irregular fibres don’t hang straight down, they are twisted. This is exactly how it behaves when you lie it flat. Good products lie straight, poor products twist.
If the stitch pattern quickly pulls together after washing, you are dealing with a low-quality thread brand. Even after washing at up to 95° Celsius, the sewn garment should keep its shape.
A high-quality brand of thread is tear-proof, lint-free, easy to process and can be relied upon to keep the fabric together.
Buy thread – suitable for your fabric and project
The vast majority of fabrics can be sewn with a thread with strength 40. It’s even easy to sew thin or thick fabrics with the same thread. When producing stitching for jeans, simply guide two threads through the upper thread guide and use a denim needle. This stable double stitching can withstand all strain. You can even achieve excellent results in this way with eye-catching decorative stitching or topstitching.
The most common sewing and embroidery threads tend to be made from polyester. These are easy to work with: Thread from W6 WERTARBEIT even allows you to stitch cotton, silk, elastic fabrics, buttonholes and so much more.
This polyester “allrounder” allows you to stitch all elastic and non-elastic fabrics. The advantage of this product is that it is so easy to work with and the tear-resistance that it offers. It also doesn’t shrink during washing and ironing, and its colour doesn’t fade.
Sewing and embroidering thread in over 300 colours
W6 Wertarbeit only offers high-quality polyester branded thread in strength 40 on 1,000 metre spools. The qualities of our thread are perfectly adapted to sewing, embroidering and overlock stitching. The lint-free thread can be fed evenly through the sewing machine, and is highly resistant to abrasion and very robust. The thread tension of the sewing machine, embroidering machine or overlock is not affected. You can sew without stopping, as there are no interruptions for torn thread. As no fibres become loose, you don’t have to stop and remove annoying fibres from the machine quite so often. And your washing machine will also thank you.
The thread can be washed without a problem at up to 95° Celsius and also keep their colour and function after frequent washes.
General colour deviations may occur for sewing, embroidery and overlock threads. Please also note that every screen displays colours differently.
